One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 10.5.24

Well done to Year 5 for another wonderful week of learning. Here's what we've been up to?

English

This week, we continued reading Michelle Paver's 'Wolf Brother' with Torak and Wolf still under capture by the Raven Clan and him learning more about Fa's secret background. In our English lessons, We completed, improved and published our wolf non-chronological reports before moving on to write a piece of descriptive poetry using figurative language about Wolf.  Next week, we will be moving on to narrative writing.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have worked on how to convert from Decimals to Fractions and Fractions to Decimals by finding equivalent fractions with 10 and 100 as denominators. We then looked at percentages for the first time and began to understand their uses and meanings. Next week, we will be continuing to look at Fractions, Decimals and Percentages and converting between the three.

Thematic

This week, we have continued our Term 5 topic 'Tides of Change' and moved on to our Science investigations. We completed two experiments looking at the affect the amount of surface area has on on air resistance as well as how different shapes affect the amount of water resistance. We also continued our Be Here, Be You, Belong PSHE learning by looking empathy and how the understanding of other people's feeling can help us be more kind and supportive. Next week, we will be continuing Science and Be Here, Be You, Belong.

Home Learning

For home learning this week, please could children design the best parachute to combat air resistance giving reasons for their design. They could even make a prototype of their parachute. As always, the children's findings can be presented in a creative way of the children's choice.

A reminder that this term's PE for children is be SWIMMING and this takes place on FRIDAY AFTERNOONS. Children can come to school in PE kit and change for swimming at the leisure centre.
