Weekly news! 19.4.24
What a superb first week back we have all had! We hope you all had a wonderful and restful Easter break.
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading, this week we have been exploring the book Emily Brown and The Thing by Cressida Cowell. We started the week by exploring the story, clarifying tricky language such as thorniest and whiny and we finished the week by retrieving information from the book.
On Friday, in our Reading for Pleasure session, we answered clues about Traditional Tales to see if we could work out what the book was! We had great fun!
English
In English we have been looking at different aspects of sentences such as adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We have been using these to describe the characters from Emily Brown and the Thing to create lost and wanted posters.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on geometry – properties of 3D shapes. We recapped our previous learning and reminded ourselves of the language vertices, edges and faces. We explored 3D shapes to find their properties and to see what 2D shapes we could see on them too.
We then used this learning to investigate 3D shape problems such as I am thinking of a shape and sorting shapes.
Next week we will be looking at number and place value.
Art – photography
In Art this week, we started our new unit on photography! We learnt the importance of photography and how this can give us a snapshot in time to hold on to forever.
This week we explored what we can take photos on and how to focus taking a photo using the ipads.
Next week we will be looking at centring the subject in the middle of the frame.
Thematic
This week we started our brand new unit – Passion for Fashion! This week we were scientists by exploring the properties of materials and investigating if solid materials can change their shape by being bent, squashed, twisted or stretched.
Next week we will be continuing investigating materials by bending, squashing, twisting and stretching and investigating waterproof and non-waterproof clothing.
