Year 5 have had another wonderful, fun-filled week of learning. Here's what we've been up to:

English

In English this week, we have continued to read through 'The Jamie Drake Equation' and are nearing the end. In our writing, we have continued our own Jamie Drake inspired alien narratives. We planned and wrote Chapter 2, which included a problem that our character had to overcome. We used dialogue with verbs and adverbs. Next week, we will be finishing our narratives and completing writing linked to Christmas.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been using the four operations to solve world problems with measurements of volume and capacity. Next week, we will be looking at statistics.

Thematic curriculum 

In our afternoons this week, we completed our end of unit quiz to see what we retained over the term. We also began creating flags and crowns for next weeks Christmas production.

Love to learn 

This week's Love to Learn, there is as MyOn challenge to read and quiz on. The books is: This or That: Questions about Space.  Please read and complete a quiz as soon as you finish the book.

 

Other News 

- Please can parents ensure that children are bringing jumpers and coats into school on a daily basis; the weather is starting to turn! 

- Top Up PE is on a WEDNESDAY. Please can children come to school in their uniform wearing suitable trainers.

- PE is on a MONDAY in Term 2. Please can children come to school wearing (correct and suitable) PE kit. The children will be doing outdoor adventure activities, so please make sure they are wearing suitable outdoor clothing for the whole term.

- Guitars are on a Thursday. Children are welcome to bring guitars from home provided they are acoustic and have a case.

• Year 1 Christmas Performance - doors open 9:00 for a 9:15 start

Tuesday 12^th December 

• Year 5&6 Christmas Performance at St Laurence Church from 10:00

• Reception, Year 1 and 2 Christmas Parties - children can wear their own clothes to school (sensible footwear please)

• Year 3&4 Christmas Performance at St Laurence Church from 2:00

Wednesday 13^th December 

• Year 2 Christmas Performance - doors open 9:00 for a 9:15 start

• Christmas Fair (on the field) 3:15-4:45

Thursday 14^th December 

• Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 Christmas Parties - children can wear their own clothes to school (sensible footwear please)

Friday 15^th December 

• Christmas Jumper Day (just for fun - wear a festive jumper, top or t-shirt with usual uniform) and Christmas Dinner. School ends at 2pm (no after school club).
