What a wonderful start to Term 2 we have had. It has been filled with lots of fabulous learning and fun! We hope you had a lovely, restful half term.

Read, Write Inc.

This week we have continued working hard in our Read, Write, Ink groups. Some of us have even changed groups and have been spending this week getting to know them. We have been practising spotting our sounds and then using fred talk to read words. We have also been continuing to use our fred fingers to help us write the words in our books, but not for the red words because we all know you can't fred a red! In your child’s reading folders, you will find some set 1,2 and 3 sounds and also some red words. Any practise with these would be wonderful!

Reading

Read at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading. 

Reading folders - All children will bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed, by an adult, every Friday.

The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this! 

Please ensure that the reading folders are being placed in the reading-coloured trays, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this!

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.

Maths

In Maths, we have been brilliant! We started the week by sequencing items and continue/finding missing numbers on the number line, we were amazing at this! We then moved our learning on by focussing or ordinal numbers. We had to place many objects in order and match the ordinal numbers with them. We ended the week by comparing numbers. We made sure we used our mathematical vocabulary greater than, less than and equal to.

Next week we will be focussing on… Money!

Thematic Curriculum

This week we started our brand-new thematic topic ‘Thunderbolts and Lightning!’  We started off by being introduced to our class weather diaries. Each day we will have a chance to observe the weather, note the temperature and draw some of our observations! We also started looking at the four different seasons; Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. We spoke about the types of suitable clothing which are appropriate for each season and dressed our own peg doll according to the season we chose!  We moved our learning on by observing and describing the weather associated with each season, we did this by focusing on changes trees have throughout the year and discussed the length of the day. We ended the week by going on a local walk. Our mission was to PROVE that it’s Autumn. We had to use our eyes carefully to hunt for clues along our route which proved it was Autumn. We spotted orange and brown leaves, pine cones, conkers and we could not miss the weather!

Within the rest of this unit of learning we will be continuing learning about the 4 seasons – winter, autumn, spring and summer. We will be learning how the seasons impact us, nature and temperature. We will also be looking at the United Kingdom and its capital cities. We will be learning about the differences between the capital cities for example the different languages they use, the different flags and the different foods they may like to eat. When looking at these capital cities, we will be looking at their weather patterns and use weather symbols to help represent it. We will celebrate all this learning by creating our very own Scratch Jr animations using simple algorithms to create hot and cold images.

Love to Learn

This week we would love for you to draw OR dress four people according to the four seasons. You could draw pictures, dress a doll or even dress yourself. Each look will have to be prepared for each of the four seasons: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer.  This can be presented in any way you wish.

  Other news

PE is on a Wednesday. Team Azure will be focussing on Gymnastics indoors. Team Peacock will be doing Outdoor Adventure Activities, so please remember to wrap up warm on Wednesdays!

Sports project will be on a Tuesday – Only trainers needed, with full school uniform.

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time).

Mrs Reavill will be teaching Team Peacock every Tuesday.

Friday 15th December – Christmas Jumper Day (just for fun) and Christmas Dinner - School ends at 2:00
