One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 20.10.23

What a spooky final week of term we have had! with skeletons, zombies, pumpkins and cauldrons, learning has never been more fun!

Read, Write Inc.

This week we have been working incredibly hard in our Read, Write, Inc groups. We have been really focussing on our speed sounds this week, practicing sounds that we are unsure of in order to build confidence. We are getting really good at spotting our special friends, now we are focussing on blending them accurately in words. Reading with our learning partners has helped us!  In your child’s reading folders, you will find some set 1,2 and 3 sounds and some red words. Any practise with these would be wonderful!

Reading

Read at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.

Reading folders - All children will bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed, by an adult, every Friday.

The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this!

Please ensure that the reading folders are being placed in the reading-coloured trays, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this!

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.

Maths

In Maths, we have been exploring statistics. We started off with Tally Charts and had the opportunity to visit forest school to record our findings. We progressed onto discussing the most popular and least popular items on charts and even how to find the difference between them by subtracting. Next we looked at pictograms and continued to discuss what sort of questions we can ask about the data.

Our number fact this week has been… 4+1

Thematic Curriculum

This week we have been learning all about our wonderful world and different creation stories of different religions. Take a look at the beautiful creation story wheels we drew from the account from the Bible below! We also discussed what makes our world special and made posters to show ways that we can look after it and why this is important.

Next term we will start our new Topic: Thunderbolts and Lightning! Our focus will be Geography and we will also be doing some Computing. In Art, we will be exploring printmaking and collage.

Music

We are so lucky to have the wonderful Mr Redwood to teach us music! This week we have been working on the beat - differentiating between ta tas and te tees and trying to hear rests in music. Take a look at one of the songs we have been learning...

Love to Learn

Next term in Maths we will be learning about money! We would love for you to look at some coins and notes over the half term and familiarise yourselves with their value. If you would like to record your learning in your Love to Learn books that would be fantastic however there is no expectation to, the priority is to enjoy your holiday!
