One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 06.10.23

We had a brilliant start to the week with our Harvest Festival assembly. All the children did a fantastic job of remembering their lines and performing the songs, a big well done to all! Read on to see what else we got up to.

Read, Write Inc.

This week we have continued working incredibly hard in our Read, Write, Inc groups. We have loved reading stories with our learning partners, taking turns to read pages and reminding our partner to fred talk if they get stuck. In your child’s reading folders, you will find some set 1,2 and 3 sounds and also some red words. Any practice with these would be wonderful!

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning how to take away. Some children have really impressed us with their Maths vocabulary, using words such as subtract and minus! We started off by building a tower of the total amount and breaking off the number of cubes that we were subtracting, before using part, part, whole models to find out the missing numbers and write calculations.

Next week, we will continue to learn more strategies for subtraction.

Next week, our number fact of the week will be 3 + 1

Art

The artist we learnt about this week was William Morris. We discussed how he used nature motifs to create patterns which were turned into wallpaper to beautify people's homes.

Thematic Curriculum

This week we moved into Geography, with a focus on our town. We started off by learning all about villages, towns and cities and doing a sorting activity. After that, we discussed addresses and what they are for before writing our own on envelopes! We then used some of these to go on a Google Earth adventure around Ramsgate and our task was to spot the human features along the way and record them in our books. We also looked at aerial photographs of Ramsgate and discussed how they are different to photographs taken at ground level.

Next week we will be continuing our learning in Geography with a focus on maps.

Love to Learn

We would love for you to have a go at creating a map or floor plan of your house!

Just a few messages for you...

PE this term will be on a Wednesday.

Sports project will be on a Tuesday – Only trainers are needed, with full school uniform.

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time).

Mrs Reavill will be teaching Team Peacock every Tuesday.

Reading

Read at 3 - Every Friday at 3 our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.

Reading folders - All children will bring home two books, one being a RWI home book. Children are expected to try and read this three times during the week to ensure they are building on their reading fluency. The RWI home books will be changed by an adult every Friday.

The other book (with the coloured sticker) should be changed independently by the child themselves - first thing in the morning is a great time to do this!

Please ensure that the reading folders are placed in the reading-coloured trays, so we can read with your children and ensure books get changed. Thank you for your support with this!

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly.

Have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday!
