One Childhood, One Chance

Important reminders

- We were so impressed with the quality of the children's speeches this week.  They all prepared so well and spoke confidently and clearly.  Each person showed terrific respect by listening to everyone.  Well done - you should be very proud of yourselves!

- Children may bring a snack for after their swimming sessions if they wish.

Maths

Applying our learning of place value last week, we learned how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000... even to the nearest 1,000,000!  By understanding place value, we knew how to round: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4... round it down to the floor but 5, 6, 7, 8, 9... climb up to the vine!  Click this link to watch a video of Mr. Wheeler showing how we round to the nearest 10 and 100. English

In English this week, we read some more of 'Way Home' and understood that Shane, the main character, was homeless.  We researched what it means to be homeless and learned that it did not just mean 'living on the streets'.  From this, we wrote a report for the back of the book for future readers, focussing on technical vocabulary.  After generating some ambitious vocabulary for how we thought Shane would be feeling, we role-played scenes from the book.

Scan the QR code to view some more of our amazing freeze frames for homelessness (apologies if the photos appear upside down!)

Thematic

We had lots of fun finding out what our new thematic topic will be: Darwin's Delights!  We had a treasure hunt to find clues about famous explorers and became experts about each person.  We created a timeline for the start of Charles Darwin's life and asked the Big Queston: Is change good?

Love to Learn

Letters have been given out informing children of their reading level (ZPD).  Please ensure that you read for a minimum of four times a week for at least 10 minutes and sign your reading record.

Another letter has been sent out stating your new mymaths details.  Your love to learn task this week is to log on to mymaths as your teacher has set a challenge on rounding for you.
