One Childhood, One Chance

Year 4 Weekly News 24.6.23

What have we been up to this week?

In English, we have been learning about persuasive writing. We have learnt how to use superlatives, modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions to ensure our writing is as persuasive as it can be. Next week, we will be learning about non-chronological reports.

In maths, we have been learning how to balance calculations and how to solve calculations containing brackets. We then learnt how to solve 2 step problems involving volume, some of which involved converting units of volume before they could be solved. Next week, we will be learning about length and mass.

In our thematic unit 'Earth Shattering events', we have found out what is inside a volcano, where in the World the most famous volcanoes are located and about the advantages and disadvantages of living near a volcano. In art, we learnt about the 4 artists we will be studying this term; Frida Kahlo, Cindy Sherman, Peter Blake and Andy Warhol. We looked at lots of paintings and photographs by these artists and gave our opinions on them. Next week we will be learning more about the impact of volcanic eruptions on people and the landscape and creating our own Frida Kahlo inspired self portraits.
