One Childhood, One Chance

Year 3 Weekly News!

What a fantastic end to the term!

English

We finished the Magic Faraway tree this week. We wrote our own version of the story in a 5 part plan! We had some fantastic ideas and wrote openings, build-ups, problems, resolutions and endings. We included dialogue, expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials.

Next term, we’ll be starting our new book Charlotte’s Web!

Maths

In maths, we’ve been learning about time. We’ve been looking at analogue clocks and telling the time past and to. We then looked at comparing time using greater than, less than and equal to as well as organising clocks from earliest to latest. Finally, we learnt to convert time from hours to minutes.

For example, I went dancing for 2 hours. How many minutes is that?

Next term, we’ll be learning about place value when we come back. We’ll be using dienes blocks and coins to see if we represent numbers and their place value.

RE

For RE, we’ve been learning about Judaism. We learnt about the festival of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year and the book of life. We then learnt about Sukkot and the Sukkah tents that the Jewish people live in during that time to remind themselves of what life was like during the Jewish peoples time in the desert.

The next day, we learnt Hannukah which is about how the Jewish people refused to go against their faith and beliefs. After that, we learnt about Purim and the story of Esther and how she also stood up for her beliefs. Have a look at Team Cyan recreating some of these parts of the story!

Love to Learn

READING: Children in Year 3 are expected to read at home at least three times a week. It is really important that the children bring in their reading records daily so that we can check in with progress and read with the children in school. MyOn is a great way for children to read independently. Once a book has been read on MyOn it will ask you to quiz and direct you to the AR website. Please read as often as possible at home. Thank you for your support.

English: Since we have finished the Magic Faraway Tree, I would like you to write your own fantasy, magical story! Please bring it in the first Wednesday of term.
