Weekly News! w/b 13.3.23
Take a look at what we have been up to this week…
Read, Write Inc
This week we have continued learning our sounds. We have been working hard on reading alien words like; plone, chake, emp and lig! You can play wonderful games around alien words at home, name the alien, where you can make up a random name and children have to read it, build an alien; similar to hang man, but every letter or special friend they get right, a part of the aliens body is built or they could simply draw and make up alien names using their sounds and special friends! Please continue read at home. Practising spotting special friends before reading the word helps to make sure you are reading accurately. For an extra challenge, take note of the punctuation used in your books!
Some of you may have seen comments in your child’s reading record about re-reading their reading books. We are encouraging this to help support their fluency and confidence.
In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Every morning can all children place their reading folders inside their house trays in the conservatory please :) This helps us keep track of their reading and how many books they have read. Thank you.
Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at division! We started by sharing equally! We had to place the correct, equal amount of pizza toppings on a number of pizza bases! Take a look at what we got up to! Next week we will continue our division learning by looking at sharing circles and grouping objects together.
Thematic Curriculum
This week we have been focussing on Geography! We started the week by looking at a range of maps, plans and globes. These included floor plans, globes, bus and train maps, street maps, atlases, plans of the school, Google Earth and satnavs. We spoke about what they were like, how they were similar and how they were different. Using photos we created a plan of the classroom and positioned the features. We then moved on to create our own map of the school, making sure we labelled the key features, we even recognised the features of our school from an aerial photograph! We then recapped are learning from Term 1 about Human and Physical features. We concentrated on the features we have in our school. We went and explored Chilton, and noted down what features we saw! We then sorted many places, spots and items from around school, using our sorting hoops. To end the week we looked at Physical and Human features of Ramsgate, ready for our local walk on Monday! We answered some tricky questions and sorted some famous local features, which a lot of us recognised. Next week we will end our wonderful explorer topic with a quiz and local walk!
Love to Learn:
This week we would love for you to go for a walk and note down all the physical and human features you see! You can record this by writing them down, drawing them or taking pictures!
