Year 4 Weekly News 13.5.22
This week has been another fantastic week and children have been working incredibly hard so well done!
Maths
Throughout maths this week, we have been looking at fractions and decimals. We began the week by looking at and understanding equivalent fractions. We used different representations such as shading and a bar to show them! We moved onto looking at decimal equivalent fractions on a number line. For example, 0.3 being 3/10s and 4.8 being 4 and 8/10.
NEXT WEEK: We will be looking at measure and the different measurements that can be used.
We are continuing our massive drive to learn our times tables so keep working incredibly hard on them!
English
This week we have been creating our own magical poems! It has been amazing to see how engaged the children have been and to see how much they have loved writing their poems! We began by creating our own rhyming poems and then followed a repeating structure but used the rhyming structure A B A B. At the end of the week, we even included abstract nouns in our magical poems!
NEXT WEEK: We will be beginning to write our own five-part narrative based on ‘The Wizards of Once’.
Topic
During Topic this week, we have been doing some amazing experiments! On Monday, we had lots of different liquids and timed the speed it would take them to get down our white boards. We used Water, ketchup and honey, the children loved making a mess of their whiteboards! We then continued to look at solids liquids and gases and what happened to them when heated.
Love to Learn, reading and spellings
- Your child should be bringing home their yellow spelling book with their 5 personalised spellings. Please practise these as much as possible.
- For our maths homework, can you create a poster including all the information that you know about equivalent fractions and decimal equivalents. Use a number line to show us!
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Year 4 Team
