What a fantastic week of learning Year 5 have had this week! Here is what we have been up to:
Maths
In maths this week we have been converting between fractions and decimals. We began the week by converting fractions with a denominator of 10, 100 or 1000. We then moved on to convert fractions such as 4/5. At the end of the week, we began to look at percentages and learned that percent means out of 100.
Next week, we will be learning to convert between percentages, decimals and fractions.
English
In our English this week we have been learning about the Industrial Revolution! We learned about some key inventions from the Victorian era, such as the invention of the steam train. We then wrote persuasive letters to Queen Victoria to persuade her to give her support to the revolution, focussing on using modal verbs and cause and effect conjunctions. Next week, we will be moving on to write a narrative about Lizzie and Emily, two characters from our book, Street Child. We will be focussing on weaving action, description and dialogue within this writing.
Afternoon Learning
This week, we continued our new topic, Oh we do like to be beside the seaside! We began the week by learning about the abolition of slavery act, and the children created their own acts. We then moved on to learn about Queen Victoria's legacy in Thanet, before creating a leaflet to persuade people to visit Victorian Ramsgate.
Next week, we will begin the science part of our topic, focussing on the human life cycle.
Home Learning
This week, we would like for you to create a collage of Ramsgate seaside. We will then use these to make comparisons to a day at Ramsgate seaside now to during the Victorian era.
