Year 3 Weekly News 4.3.22
Year 3 have had another brilliant week. Thank you so much for everyone for your efforts with your fantastic World Book Day costumes! Here is what we have been up to this week.
English
This week we have finished our writing unit about diary entries. The children have learnt how to show a character's changing viewpoint in a diary entry and how to describe the events being recounted using verbs and adverbs. We have read more of Charlottes Web and summarised what we have learnt about Charlotte and asked insightful questions about what is happening in the story. Next week we will be learning to write poetry using alliteration and similes.
Maths
In maths this week the children have been learning about money. We began by looking at real coins and notes and using them to make amounts of money using different combinations of coins and notes. They were amazing at this! We then learnt to add money, starting with adding coins and then adding larger amounts of money using the column method. We then moved on to learn how to use the column method to subtract to find amounts of change. Next week, we will be learning how to multiply and divide amounts of money using short multiplication and division.
Topic
In topic this week the children have continued with their science learning in our forces topic. We have been learning about magnets and magnetism. We began by learning about what a magnet is and that magnets have 2 poles that repel or attract each other. Then, the children explored which materials are attracted to magnets and then, which metals are magnetic. Next week, the children will be designing and making a game using magnets and learning about light and shadows.
Love to Learn
This week's home learning challenge is to find out who discovered gravity and find out how they discovered it. You can find a link to a good video about this below. You can present what you find out in whatever way you wish. Some ideas are; you could make a poster about the discovery of gravity, write an information page with a diagram or write a newspaper report about it, or you may have another idea - we look forward to seeing your learning.
