Friday 10th December
Festive Feels
The Christmas period is in full swing and the children are enjoying their first Christmas in school!
English
In English, this week we have continued to recap our set one sounds. We are really focusing on our special friends qu, sh, ch, th and ng. The children continue to make fantastic progress in their reading and writing. They are gaining confidence in reading simple words and are all having a good go at writing simple words. Our focus book this week was 'Blue Penguin'. The children loved making fact files about winter based on this story.
Maths
In maths this week we have been learning about patterns. The children have been looking at repeating patterns and spotting the rule that the patterns follow. The children have then been continuing these patterns. The children have also had a go at trying to spot mistakes in repeating patterns. We have been so impressed with how well the children have done with this.
Topic
Our Topic this week has been based on the book 'Blue Penguin'. Through this book we have been learning about Winter. On Monday, we went on a winter walk around school, looking for signs of winter. On Tuesday, we were winter detectives, finding clues around the classroom, embedding our learning on the signs on winter. On Wednesday, we made a winter fact file using on the new knowledge we had gained. Finally, on Thursday, we worked as a team to create a winter acrostic poem.
Notices
Our Christmas Party is on Wednesday 15th December. The children can come into school in non-school uniform on this day. We will still be playing outside, so please just make sure they are wrapped up warm and have shoes that will keep their feet warm and dry. The children are able to bring some food to share with their friends on this day. They will still be having packed lunch/school dinner, so just a small amount of food will be fine. So that we get a mix of food, please can the following children bring the following food types:
Green Normans and Yellow Saxons: Something savoury
Blue Vikings: Something sweet
Red romans: Drinks (no fizzy drinks allowed)
On Friday, the children are allowed to come to school wearing a Christmas jumper. Please note, they need to be wearing their usual school uniform, along with their Christmas jumper.
Friday 17th December is the last day of school. We will be finishing at 2pm. The children return to school on Wednesday 5th January at the usual time.
Love to learn
Advance warning: the children will be bringing home their love to learn books over the Christmas holidays. Their next topic is 'Superheroes'. We ask that the children design their own superhero outfit. We ask the children come dressed as their superhero next term. Please keep an eye out for their love to learn books coming home containing more information about this.
Merry Christmas to you all!
