Friday 2nd July
Transition time begins!
This year has flown; we have only 2 weeks and 3 days left. This week the children met their new class teacher. Team Indigo had a visit from Miss Keam and Team Royal spent the morning with a familiar face.... Miss Dudley-Smith. On Thursday the 8th and 15th of July the children will be spending the mornings in their new classrooms with their year 1 teachers in order to further prepare them for their move to year 1. They seem really positive about moving up to year 1 so far, which is great.
This weeks learning:
In Maths this week, we learnt about money. We recapped what the coins look like and how much each coin is worth. Following this, we learnt how to use different coins to make an amount in order to buy something. We started with totals of 10p and then moved on to larger amounts. The children used numicon to help them with their addition.
In English this week, we have continued with our Read, Write Inc phonic sessions. We continue to practise reading and writing simple sentences every day. We are continuing to learn more sounds and apply this into our reading and writing. We are also learning more and more red words. For our writing task in Topic, we made a poster encouraging people to take better care of our beaches.
In Topic, we read the story 'Someone swallowed Stanley'. In this story, Stanley, a plastic bag, makes his way in to the Ocean and is swallowed up by different animals. We used the book to explore the problems caused by plastic entering the Ocean and what we can do to help. The children sorted objects that belong on the beach and those that do not and they made posters encouraging people to take their rubbish home.
