Friday 22nd September
What a fantastic week Year 3 have had! Here is what we have been up to:
English
In English this week, we have finished reading 'Stone Age Boy'. We also completed our non-chronological reports on the Stone Age, writing about how they got their food, what they wore, time periods and where they lived. We are now Stone Age experts, so please ask us about this! Within our writing, we have been learning skills such as how to write a compound sentence using the conjunctions and, or, but.
Next week, we will continue our learning on 'Stone Age Boy' by moving on to write playscripts.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning how to subtract. We began by learning how to count backwards on a number line, before moving on to subtract two-digit numbers using a number line. When we were confident with this, we then began to subtract bigger numbers using dienes to support us. Some of us even challenged ourselves to subtract numbers and regroup.
Next week, we will be moving on to multiplication and how to show this using arrays.
Afternoons
In the afternoons this week we have continued with our thematic coverage of 'Prehistory Rocks!'. On Tuesday we learnt how classify and group rocks based on their properties, using scientific vocabulary such as permeability and density. We then moved on to learn about different types of soil, before going outside and studying the different types of soil at Chilton.
Next week, we will be going back to our history unit by learning about fossils and how life in Prehistoric Britiain changed from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.
Home Learning
Thank you for all of your effort this week with home learning! This week we would like children to write a non-chronological report about something they are interested in, including compound sentences and rhetorical questions. This could be presented in any way, and if you would prefer to do this verbally and record it as a video or do it on the computer, please feel free to email it to us and we will be happy to share it with the class.
We have also sent home the children's TTRS logins (Team Indigo's are stuck inside of their reading records). Please could children play this at home as much as possible as we would like all children to be confident with their 2s, 10s and 5s.
