Families play a big part in life at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate with relatives keen to support school and take part in their children’s learning.

The latest visit saw parents enjoying a wholesome treat with the school’s latest intake in Reception where the little pupils had tried their hand at making bread.

The children have been investigating what is grown on a farm as part of their topic work and learned about the basic baking process using natural ingredients.

Deputy Head of School Hannah Cheshire explained: “We read the lovely story of Little Red Hen as part of our On The Farm work, learning about jobs, animals and their babies, and the different types of produce that farmers provide.

“The children were really keen to help making bread and when our parents visited they enjoyed sharing a lovely treat which they all said was very tasty.

“Parents and families have an important support role at Chilton and we invite them in to school throughout the year, not just to see our pupils’ achievements but to join in and share their successes.

“This is particularly important for parents of our new intake classes as it introduces them into the daily life of our school and it gives added support to the little ones who have only been in big school for a matter of weeks.”

As part of their topic work, reception children have planted seeds and learnt about taking care of produce. They looked at role animals play on the farm and how important it is to take care of living things.

They started the topic by listening carefully to noises of farm animals and seeing which ones they recognised, sharing what they already knew about these animals and learning new facts.

They also read What The Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson and created freeze frames of important events in the story and created a timeline to show what happens.
