Weekly News! 27.9.24
English
During English this week, we have been looking at character descriptions. We have focused on using prepositions, fronted adverbials, adjectives and expanded noun phrases to describe Shackleton’s appearance and personality. We finished the week by doing a ‘showpiece’ about Mrs Chesire, we also described her appearance and personality. Next week, we are going to be introducing newspaper reports about Shackelton’s journey.
Maths
This week in maths, we have been concentrating on subtraction. We have used the column method to subtract numbers up to 5 digits with regrouping. We also looked at numbers with multiple 0s in with regrouping. Finishing the week by looking at finding missing values and misconceptions. Next week, we will be moving on to multiplication.
Thematic
In Thematic this week, we have continued ‘Across the Pond’. We started the week by comparing mountain ranges from North America and the UK. We made our own mountain ranges using newspaper and mod rock. This was messy but very fun! We also looked at a range of different fact files about the mountain ranges. Next week we will be finishing our mountain ranges by sticking things on them which make them look like the mountain range we were given. We will then be creating our own presentation about our mountain range as an oracy task.
LOVE TO LEARN
This week’s LOVE TO LEARN is to research your own artist who creates any art that is linked to mountains or mountain ranges. Once you have researched, you can create an information text about your artist or recreate a piece of art by that artist.
Our Fact of the week this week has been 7 X 6 = 42 and our spelling rule has been spelling words with the suffix -ible and able.
Next week, we will be celebrating Harvest. As part of this, we would like to invite families in to watch our Harvest Assembly. These will take place in the school hall on the following dates:

Wednesday 2nd October: 9am Year 4 and 5 and 2.45pm Year 6

As part of the celebrations, we will also be collecting food that we will be donating to Thanet Food Bank. We will be taking donations between Wednesday 25th September and Monday 30th September.
