Thank you to everyone who managed to join us for our Harvest Festival this week; we hope you enjoyed it! Here is what else we have been up to this week.

English

This week, we read a new book called ‘Lila and the Secret of the Rain’. We learnt where Kenya is and why it is so hot there, as well as learning about what a drought is. We focussed on using ambitious adjectives to describe how Lila felt at different points in the story when writing recounts. We did this in the form of a letter to Mama and a diary entry, both from the viewpoint of Lila. We also celebrated National Poetry Day by exploring a range of funny poems and sharing our favourite with the class.

Next week, we will be writing our own narratives by rewriting our class text. We will focus on using fronted adverbials to organise our writing into paragraphs.  

Maths

This week we have been learning how to divide! We began the week by using grouping and sharing to solve division problems. We then moved on to identify factors and products in multiplication and division problems, before using bar models and part-part-whole models to solve these.

Next week, we will be moving on to learn how to tell the time on an analogue clock. We will be focussing on telling time to the nearest five minutes.  

Afternoons

In the afternoons we have been learning about the history of Art from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We studied how artistic expression changed across Prehistoric Britain, from cave painting in the Stone Age to jewellery in the Iron Age, before looking at how ceramics changed over time. We are now archaeological experts, so please ask us about this!  

Next week we will be finishing our Prehistory Rocks thematic unit by making our own fossils from shells. We will also complete our end of unit quiz and learn about how technology evolved from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.

Home Learning

Thank you for your hard work on the home learning last week. For this week, we would love you to have a go at this game on Topmarks to practice your division.  

Grouping - 5-7 year olds - Topmarks

We would also like children to log on to MyOn and complete the book assigned to them on Kenya, which will support with our learning next week. You can then complete the quiz on this after you have finished reading. The logins for MyOn are the same as those for AR. If you are not sure of your child’s AR login, please contact their class teacher who will be happy to provide this for you.

If you are near the beach this weekend, it would also be great if you could collect some shells to bring to school for our Fossil making lesson on Wednesday.

Reminders

• On Thursday, our doors will be open after school until 4 for you to come in and see your child’s books. We would love to see you there to celebrate their hard work this term.

• Parents Consultations will take place during the last week of term. Please book these online. If you are unable to make either of the dates provided, please let your child’s teacher know and we will be happy to arrange a more suitable time with you.

• PE is on a Monday this term. Please send your child to school wearing full PE kit.

• Sports Project is on a Friday. Please could children come to school wearing their uniform and trainers.

• Children should be reading at home to an adult at least four times a week and bringing their reading records to school every day.
