One Childhood, One Chance

Year 3 News!

What a great start to Term 5! The children have jumped straight back in and have created some lovely work this week. Let's have a look at what we have been up to.

English

This week in English, we started our new text Charlotte’s web. The children have really enjoyed reading the first few chapters and have asked lots of questions about the new words they are learning from the text. Our writing this week has been writing diary entries from different characters perceptions. The children have been really successful in writing from different viewpoints and have used lots of adventurous vocabulary!

Maths

Our Maths learning this week has focused on place value. We have used base 10, coins and measurements to represent place value. Year 3 have really surprised us with their knowledge and have done incredibly well with representing place value. We then moved on to estimating numbers up to 1000, this was tricky but year 3 worked really hard and expanded their knowledge.

To consolidate this learning, you could play this game at home.

Thematic

This week saw the start of our new topic, from bean to bar. The children quickly learnt that our topic was mostly focused around chocolate and were very enthusiastic. To begin our topic, the children designed and painted their own chocolate bars. Then, we moved on to learning about the Mayans and Aztecs, carrying out our own research, using sources such as books and videos.

Love to Learn

READING: Children in Year 3 are expected to read at home at least three times a week. It is really important that the children bring in their reading records daily so that we can check in with progress and read with the children in school. MyOn is a great way for children to read independently. Once a book has been read on MyOn it will ask you to quiz and direct you to the AR website. You can also AR the school reading books, once your child has finished. Please read as often as possible at home

Maths: Complete the worksheet on estimation.
