Year 4 weekly news - 18.3.22
Firstly, a huge thank you for all of your incredible donations! We were overwhelmed with your generosity and the lovely ladies at Quex Barn were very thankful for our support.
What else have Year 4 been doing this week?!
Maths
This week we have been using our mental maths strategies to help us solve problems. We first looked at how we can use the inverse to help us solve calculations. We know that we can make number fact families using part-part whole and bar models, and we used these to support our calculations. We then used rounding to help us estimate answers.
We have been working incredibly hard to learn our times tables. We need to practise our 4s, 6s, 7s and 8s. There are some great songs on youtube that help us remember!
English
This week we have been learning more skills to help us persuade. We have begun to write more formally using our persuasive devices. We wrote amazing letters to the High Court (fictional!) to urge them to keep the borders open. We then practised this writing style with an argument about the environment. Our writing has been INCREDIBLE. Next week we will be writing arguments for why we should care for refugees. We would like to share these with you at the end of the term! Watch this space for an invite!
Topic
With our amazing electricity knowledge, we were able to design a circuit needed for our buzzing loop toys. This week we learnt about conductors and insulators. We learnt how insulators keep us safe and we wrote persuasive pieces about how to stay safe around electricity. Next week we will be making our own buzzing loop toys!
