Welcome to Term 4!
If you have any spare plastic bottles, please could you bring them in for our upcoming Science lessons and if you have any spare shoeboxes, please could we have them for our English lessons by 3/3/20.
In English, we have finished ‘Clockwork’ and were all astonished at the ending with Karl’s death and Prince Florian becoming a real boy. We focused on writing recounts this week looking at using time conjunctions to show the passing of time. The children came up with lots of interesting ways of writing recounts including newspapers, online news articles, diary entries and Twitter threads.
In Maths, we have been looking at statistics and how they can be recorded in different ways. As part of personal challenge day, we recorded the number of star jumps we could do in five minutes and then we recorded this data on a number of different graphs including histograms and time graphs. We then looked at interpreting different time graphs and solving problems based on the data presented.
Tuesday was Personal Challenge day and the children all worked very hard to improve their scores from throwing the javelin despite some tricky weather conditions in the afternoon. Well done to all the children who set new javelin personal bests!
In the afternoons this week, we have been looking at both RE and VALUES. In RE, we have been learning about the Easter story and why it is important to Christians. We have completed a range of different tasks relating to this including big writes, artwork and drama. In our Values time, we have looked at British Values (Democracy, Mutual Respect, The Rule of the Law, Individual Liberty) and their importance to our lives, both in and out of school.
Home Learning
Please can children record some data that shows something changing over a period of time and record their findings in an interesting way.
We are still encouraging the children to play as much Times Tables Rockstars (ttrockstars.com) at home. When logging in, please select ‘Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate’. Children’s log ins are the same as their MyMaths log ins (please see your teacher if you need your child’s log in).
Online book club!
So that the children can share their reading choices we have created an online book club. When they have read a book that they have loved, they can log in and write a review on our site. The link to this site is below:

The children will be given a password so only the children and families of Year 4 can view comments.
We can't wait to see what they are reading!
