Year 3 Weekly News - Friday 13th November
English
This week we have become authors and created our own versions of 'Into the Forest'. We have been so impressed with the children's writing stamina and have seen huge progress with their writing. The children have been learning to use coordinating conjunctions and fronted adverbials to make their sentences varied and interesting. They followed the pattern of the story and sounded like real authors!
To help them, the children have been using actions to retell stories, and have created story maps to plot and sequence events in guided reading.
Next week we begin another Anthony Browne story - The Tunnel. They will be learning to use features of suspense.
Maths
This week the children have been exploring 2D shapes. They are able to identify properties of shape and have explored lines of symmetry and angles. Some children found symmetry quite tricky so to help, here is an online game that they can try at home if they would like!

Next week we will explore 3D shapes.
PSHE
Over the past two weeks we have been learning about kindness and friendships. We have spent a lot of time talking about our worries and how important it is to TELL someone when we are anxious or concerned about something. We learnt about how our school keeps us safe and then we discussed peer pressure and how it can be difficult to say no to our friends. Next week is Anti-bullying week so we will continue to discuss and tackle issues of friendship and falling out alongside our RE learning. We have introduced our worry box to the class and will have regular circle time to support each other.
Home learning
Love to learn books will be sent home this afternoon. This week is a PSHE task:
Design a poster explaining to younger children either:
-What bullying looks like
-What makes a good friend
Think about our learning in class, especially our lesson on peer pressure.
