Wednesday 24th June Learning
Good morning Year 3! Are you enjoying the lovely weather this week? We hope that you are finding some time to get outside as well as do your learning.
English
Reading
Your task for reading today is to read the last page and summarise what has happened in the chapter.
Writing
Today you are going to have to make a choice. Do you think Mr Wonka should rehire the workers or do you think he should keep the factory closed? You will need to make a list of all the reasons you the factory should open or remain closed.
Here are some ideas you might want to magpie. Make sure you think of some more on your own:
Reasons to reopen
- Your sweets bring joy to millions of children around the world.
- Your chocolate is the best in the world. No one else makes chocolate like you.
Reasons to stay closed
- Chocolate is bad for you and it is making people unhealthy.
- You are giving other chocolate makers a chance to make money.
Once you have made your lists you need to decide which side you are going to take and plan a speech that you are going to write and film tomorrow. Think about how you want to layout your speech. Attached is a template for you to plan around. You will need to use the first template, not the others. You will need an introduction, at least three arguments and a conclusion. Make sure you are using persuasive language and remember this is just a plan, you will be writing the speech tomorrow.
Maths
Warm up with 15 minutes of Times Tables Rock Stars. If you do not know your log in details please email Mr Mason or Mrs Cousins and they will send them to you.
Today you will use your knowledge of types of angles to solve some problems and to explain your reasons for your answers.
In the question above the boy called Aaron thinks that the triangle has 3 angles so it has one of each type - an acute angle, an obtuse angle and a right angle. To answer the question, you need to work out what the angles in the triangle are and then explain how he is right or wrong. When I look at the triangle I can see that it has one right angle in the bottom left corner (like the corner of a piece of paper) and the other 2 angles are smaller than a right angle so they are acute angles, therefore I think that Aaron is wrong. I need to explain this clearly in my answer.
Open up the reasoning comparing angles sheet and see if you can complete the questions.
Topic
Today we are going to find out how chocolate is made! Follow this link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/18778746 and watch the video to find out. Make sure that you are taking notes as you are watching. Your task is to create a comic strip that shows the chocolate making process. Attached is a blank comic strip for you to fill in. Make sure you are explaining the process as well as drawing it.
Spellings
To practice your spellings today, there is a year 3/4 common exception word crossword to complete. When you've finished it, test yourself on the spellings and practice the ones you don't get right.
