What a fabulous week we have had in Year 1. For some of the children, it will be their last day in school and some will be coming in next week. For those learning from home next week, Miss Wright will see you on Microsoft Teams Monday morning. For those at school, we hope you have a great week in school with Mrs Walker and Mrs Marazzi.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year. We hope that you all stay well and healthy over the next few weeks.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D shapes. We have been learning the names of these shapes:
2D: circle, triangle, square, oblong, oval, pentagon, hexagon
3D: sphere, cube, cuboid, pyramid, cone
We have been learning to describe and continue repeating patterns. We also matched objects outside on the playground to 3D shapes (e.g. the bin is a cylinder shape). See the photos attached at the bottom of the page to see some of the wonderful learning we did!
Topic
This week we have made rain gauges and each day we have gone out to check how much rain has fallen. The children have loved doing this and seeing which day had the most rainfall.
RE
On Friday, we had an RE day. We thought about why Christians send presents at Christmas time. We learned about the Christmas story and the gifts which the Kings brought for Baby Jesus.
Love to Learn
Firstly, thank you and a big well done to the families who have completed the love to learn tasks. There have been some wonderful and creative learning coming in to school. Remember, the tasks do not need to be completed in the books – they are just there for if you want to use them. We have had large pieces of artwork and sculptures handed in this week!
This week in maths, we have been learning about shapes. To consolidate this learning, look around your house/garden. What shapes can you see? Try to encourage the correct names (see above in the maths section). You could take photos of the shapes, draw them, make pictures with different shapes etc.
Reminders
- Those learning at home next week can access the live lessons each day (for maths, English and topic). See schedule sent out for timings of the live lessons. The lessons will be recorded and added to Teams. You will be able to watch these videos at a time which is convenient for you. If you have any questions regarding the live lessons, please contact Miss Wright on email (nicki.wright@chiltonprimary.co.uk) and she will hopefully be able to help!
- If you have any spare minutes over the next few weeks, spending some time practising writing numbers and letters would be really beneficial. Also, remember to read regularly! Many thanks!
We hope that you have a lovely and relaxing holiday and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.
Many thanks and best wishes,
The Year 1 Team
