Friday 20th November
Another fabulous week for our Year 1 Superstars. They have worked so hard yet again this week and should be incredibly proud. We have been amazed by their writing in topic this week – well done Team Turquoise and Team Cyan!
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been continuing to learn about money. We have been learning to use the coins to make a total e.g.
6p = 5p and 1p
We had to think carefully about the coins we could use (e.g. we had to know that there is not a 3p coin or a 6p coin!)
We also learned how to make a total in different ways e.g.
6p = 5p and 1p
6p = 2p and 2p and 2p
6p = 2p and 2p and 1p and 1p
Some of this was a bit tricky but we persevered and our money money experts!
Topic
This week we have started our new topic: Weather Around the World! For our entry point at the start of the week, we went on a walk around the school to see what things we could find relating to autumn and winter. We have been learning about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and how he created his artwork. We then had a go at making artwork using natural materials. Have a look at the photo collage below to see Team Cyan on their walk around the school.
Love to Learn
Well done to the wonderful Love to Learn tasks that have been completed. We have loved looking at these in class.
This week we would like the children to keep a weather diary – this could be where they look at the weather over one day or looking at the weather over a few days. They could take photographs, draw pictures, label the weather conditions or write in sentences: it is up to you to decide.
Reminders
- A polite reminder that at this time, children are not allowed to bring things in to school from home.
- Sensible shoes need to be worn for PE on a Tuesday. These sessions take place outside.
- Please remember to sign your child’s reading record when they have read and when books need changing, please place in the box in the morning.
Many thanks for your continued support.
