Friday 1st May 2020
Pinch, punch it’s the first day of the month! Happy 1st May year 1, where did the sun go?
It’s the last day of the week and we have some fantastic learning for you today.
English
At 10.30am today on the link below a lovely Read, Write Inc teacher will be adding a video to teach you all the sound i-e (we call these ‘chatty friends’). There will be two videos called: Set 3 speed sounds a-e and Set 3 spelling i-e. If you would like to, please watch the video for your phonics session by clicking on the link:
You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video
If the videos do not work for you then the lesson is detailed below:
1, Find the sound ‘i-e’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘i-e nice smile’. Explain that the i-e are chatty friends (they talk too much so are not allowed to sit next to each other and have to have someone sit in between them!) When you're finished, point to some other sounds too (about 10).
2. Write down the following words for your child to read (hide, shine, like, dive, smile). Remember they need to find the chatty friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.
3. Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (broom, night, fear, spoil, snail). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.
4. Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words clife, flige, shile. Ask your child to spot the chatty/special friends, Fred talk and then read the word.
5. Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (hide, shine, like, dive, smile). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.
You can now share a book together. Use the link below to find the book ‘Wild Weather’ (feel free to select a different book to read if your child wishes to read another). I chose this book because when I was younger, I wanted to be a storm chaser! You may need some help with a couple of the words in this book, so ask an adult to help. This is a great opportunity to discuss the words used and their meanings.

This book is a non-fiction book; it gives us information. It’s time to become detectives and see if you can find what features a non-fiction book has that are different to fiction (story) books. If you have other non-fiction books at home, maybe you could compare and see what features they have. There are also some other fun activities to try at the end of the book.
Maths
As a warm up today, we would like you to take the coins from mum or dad’s wallet. Sort them into piles and, if you can, try and add up the 10ps and 1ps. Maybe you could count the tens coins first then add on the ones coins. REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE AND AFTER TOUCHING THE COINS AND DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE.
Today in maths, we will be learning to put numbers back together (recombine) after partitioning. So for example, if I gave you the problem ? = 30 + 4, we are looking to put the tens and ones back together to make 34. Solve the problems on the bottom of the page, but watch out, there might be a challenge waiting for you.
Topic
Today we are continuing with our new topic: The Magic Toymaker! At the beginning of a topic we now have an Art Part, this is where we get to explore our new topic through art.
Today we would like you to make your favourite toy using different things around the house for example lego, clay or playdough. We would love to see what you create.
If you wanted to do a little more, maybe you could research a famous artist and find out when they were born, where they lived and what type of art they were famous for. Your challenge is to find an artist linked to our new topic, have any artists made/ invented toys?
Helping at Home!
Take some time to pamper someone in your family. Put on some calming music and give them a little massage. Try to remember the different types from when we do peer massage at school.
That's all for today. Enjoy your Friyay!
Stay Happy and Stay Safe!
