Friday 23rd April
A huge welcome back to school!
It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school for term 5. They have settled into school well and are continuing to make great progress.
English
In RWI this week, we have continued to learn our digraphs ch, sh, th, ng and nk and some of us have moved onto learning our set two sounds. We practise writing the sounds, as well as reading and writing words and some of us have moved onto writing short sentences. We continue to work on our handwriting. We have enjoyed some fun FIZZY activities that help to strengthen our 'writing muscles'. This week we have enjoyed threading cheerios onto spaghetti. In our Topic writing this week, we thought and wrote about what makes us special.
Maths
In maths this week, we investigated different ways to make 5 and then different ways to make 10. We did this by having 5 cubes and breaking them into two groups. We then repeated this to see if we could find a different way of making 5. We also used our numicon tiles to explore different ways of making 5 and 10. The children were beginning to recall ways of making 10, for example, knowing from their memory that 5 + 5 = 10 and 9 + 1 = 10.
Topic
We have had our 'Values week' this week, and we have focused on the topic 'Good to be me'. We have read a beautiful book called 'All are welcome'. We discussed what makes us unique and special and how exciting it is that we are all different and are all special for different reasons. We learnt to say hello in different languages and discussed our likes and dislikes. We drew pictures showing what makes us special.
Reminders:
Friday 7th May is 'NSPCC Number Day'. As part of this all the children are invited to come to school in number-themed non school uniform. This could be as simple as wearing a spotty jumper for us all to count the spots.
This term we are learning all about 'Growth'. If you happen to have any spare plant pots or seeds please could you sent them in.
Please ensure all the children's clothes are named.
