Getting back into the learning groove!
It has been another fantastic week for Reception children at Chilton Primary School. The children have continued their smooth transition back into school and we are already seeing steady progress being made by all.
I would like to say a HUGE well done to Team Indigo and all their parents and carers for showing amazing resilience this week. Having to go back to online learning so soon was a shock to us all. We are all very proud with how hard you are working at home and we cannot wait to see you back in school!
In English this week, we have continued to work hard on our key phonic skills. We are consolidating our knowledge of the set one sounds and some of us are working on our set 2 sounds. We are getting really confident with reading and writing words and we are beginning to read and write simple phrases and sentences. We love writing all about the character 'Supertato' and describing what he looks like!
In Maths this week, we have had a really practical week, with lots of outside learning. We started the week learning about capacity, which refers to how much an object can hold. We had containers of various shapes and sizes in our sand and water trays. We used words such as full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty to describe them. We also compared the capacity of two objects by measuring how many cups of water each container could hold. At the end of the week we focused on distance. Again we were able to get out into the fresh air. We rolled balls, cars and hoops and also threw beanbags. We used words such as far, near, further, nearer, close and closer to compare the distance the objects had travelled. We also used our footsteps to measure how far the objects had travelled.
In Topic this week, we LOVED basing our learning on the book 'Supertato'. We built machines to catch the 'Evil Pea' from planks and crates and used picture cards to create our own Supertato adventures, which we shared with our friends. Our storytelling skills are really improving. We also used lots of lovely adjectives to describe characters from the story.
Messages and reminders:
Superheroes and Easter
On Thursday 1st April children are asked to come to school dressed as a 'Superhero'. This needs to be a superhero they have created. They need to consider what super powers they will have and what their outfit will look like. This day is also the day of the Easter bonnet parade. Children can bring in their Easter bonnets, if they wish to, and we will be parading around the classroom. There will be prizes for the most creative efforts. All the children will take part in an Easter Egg hunt on this day too.
World Book Day Bingo
Message from Miss Davey:
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful entries for the bingo. I am so pleased that you enjoyed it, it looks like you all had SO much fun. I loved seeing all of your photos and completed sheets – there were so many! I placed all of the entries into a random name generator and the winner is….. *drum roll*….. Rosie in Team Cyan! Thank you all for your entries and super reading.
Art Competition
Miss Keam has e mailed out about the rotary art competition this week and posters are up around the school. If you wish to take part you need to complete a piece of artwork, using any media, on a3 paper. The theme is Insects and Minibeasts. Entries need to be to Miss Keam by Monday 19th April.
We hope you have all had a good week. We are very proud of each and every one of you.
Have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you on Monday.
