Phonics 

Each day of school closure, the Ruth Miskin team will be uploading a Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 Speed Sounds lesson video to Youtube. We will be following the Set 1 videos. These will be sounds that your child has learned in class already. You will be recapping these sounds at home which will hopefully give your child a sense of confidence.

Today (1.5.20) the video will be focusing on the sound ‘j’.

After practising writing the sound in your book, please then recap writing the sounds ‘m’ and ‘s’ just as we did last term.

Now can you try writing these three words?

‘jot’ ‘jog’ ‘jam’

Alternatively, you can recap the sound ‘l’ with your child yourself.

Find your ‘Chilton Handwriting Patter’ sheet. Pour some sand, flour, sugar or similar over the top of it to create a thin layer. Use a paintbrush or your finger to uncover one of the sounds. Say the sound and practise writing it in the air. Cover it over and have another go.

 Now can you try writing these three words?

Maths

Today we will be practising counting and number recognition.

Time to get crafty. Make number booklet like this one shown below. On each page choose a number and draw that many of a chosen object.

If you are able to, you could find some items to stick onto your booklet. For example, 7 blades of grass, 8 stickers, 9 squares of foil. Get creative! We’d love to see your booklets on our Padlet page.

Yesterday you read the ‘Brenda’s Boring Egg’ e-book.

Today we would like you learn about the life cycle of a duck. If you have a printer you could print this out and draw the pictures in the boxes but it isn’t necessary. You can draw your own 4 boxes, label them in the correct order and draw the matching picture. Don’t forget to add the arrows facing in the right direction.
