Weekly News! 8.11.24!
Welcome back to term 2. We hope you have had a well-rested break. Thank you all for your time this week, we really enjoyed chatting to you all at our parent teacher consultations.
If you need any more WOW moment slips, please do ask your child’s class teacher.
RWI
This week children have gone in to groups to learn RWI. This means they are taught the sounds they need to know and lessons are tailored to their needs. All groups are still recapping set 1 sounds, with lots of oral blending, segmenting and word building. Please continue to use children’s pink sound books at home to quickly recall the sounds.
Maths
In maths this week, we recapped our numerals 1-5 and practised representing these numbers on our fingers. We then counted different groups of objects and matched the amount to the correct numeral and then we had to write the numerals ourselves.
Next week we will be matching numeral to quantity up to 10.
Thematic
We began this week with a hook into our learning about celebrations. We shared the photos you sent to us of your child at a celebration. We discussed all the different celebrations children went to and the meaning behind those celebrations.
After this, we learnt about Guy Fawkes and his importance in our history. We learnt how James I was crowned King, but some Catholic men were cross about it. They had an idea… to put gunpowder under the houses of Parliament. The King’s men caught Guy Fawkes and his fellow plotters, and they were put in prison.
Children learnt actions to the story to help them remember, and then we acted the story out to our friends. We learnt a song about The Gunpowder Plot. See the link below. We practised singing the song, giving it actions. We then performed the song in front of the class, remembering to use our singing voices and actions to make it a great performance!
Next week, we will be learning about Kindness week.
