Weekly News! 6.9.24
What a wonderful start to Year 5. We have loved welcoming the children back and seeing all of their smiles throughout the first week back!
English
In English this week, we started our new book called ‘Ice Trap’. This is a book about Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crews expedition to Antarctica. To begin the week, we created art work of Antarctica using cotton wall and tinfoil. Some of the results are amazing! After that, we have concentrated on using expanded noun phrases in a setting description about Antarctica. We have planned the description and we began writing it. Next week, we will be looking at creating our own Non-chronological reports about Antarctica.
Maths
During our maths lessons this week, we have be concentrating on place value. We have been reading and writing numbers up to 1,000,000 using place value to help us. We used base ten manipulatives to show our understanding and finished the week by comparing numbers. Next week, we are going to be ordering numbers up to 1,000,000 and then rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000.
PSHE
Throughout our PSHE lessons this week, we have been focusing on settling in coming back to school. We began by recapping our school and class rules while moving onto looking at our emotions and our zones of regulations. Thinking about what we can do when we maybe feel a certain way.
LOVE TO LEARN
Love to learn will be starting next week but can you please practice our multiplication fact of the week this week, which is 3 X 6 and find any number facts that are related.
