Weekly News 18.10.24
Here’s what we’ve been up to in Week 7.
English
In English this week we have finally finished our book ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. We found out how the Iron Man managed to defend the earth from the space-bat-angel-dragon and then acted as the characters to interview how each other about how the Iron Man and Dragon were feeling about everything. We have finished our topic on writing information texts by writing a full information sheet about tigers using all the skills we have learnt like exclamation sentences, compound & complex sentences and using cause and effect conjunctions.
Next week we will be finishing the unit by returning to character descriptions and describing the incredible space-bat-angel-dragon.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning how to read analogue and digital clocks. Analogue is always a bit more abstract than it used to be since digital time is so commonplace nowadays. We have been making sure we know which hand is the minute hand and which is the hour hand and making sure we correctly distinguish quarter past and quarter to.
Next week we will be looking at converting between analogue and digital time as well as exploring the differences between 12 and 24-hour clocks.
Science
This week we have ended our Make Some Noise Topic by learning about noise pollution and how it can affect humans and animals. We discussed what can cause noise pollution like airports, construction sites or loud music and what we can do to reduce pollution. On Tuesday we discussed how people who have difficulty hearing can communicate. We looked at how hearing aids and cochlear implants work and why people might need them and we then went on to learn some British Sign Language as that is how people without any ability to hear communicate. The children were brilliant with this and many of them have memorized how to spell their own name (and some of their friends’ names) in BSL.
Love to Learn
This week’s home learning task is an Egnlish task. Since we have been writing information texts about the Iron Man and tigers, we would love to read about things that interest you. Write an information text about anything that you like. May it’s your family, your pet, your favorite footballer or film.
Try to include different subheadings and a picture or two (with captions of course).
