Weekly News! 30.09.24
What another fantastic week we have had in Year 3! We are well underway with our Harvest Assembly practise and look forward to welcoming you in next week. Take a look at what we got up to this week-
Guided Reading
This week we have been continuing looking at the book ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. We have been reading a play script version of the story to begin our learning on Play Scripts. We were able to identify the main features of a play script, such as dialogue and stage directions. We learnt to read from the script, using our voices effectively and performing for the class. During ‘Reading for Pleasure’ we got the chance to read through a variety of play scripts, sharing our favourites with the class.
English
Continuing with ‘Stone Age Boy’, we focused this week on developing our understanding of script writing. This week we practised using dialogue within a script and incorporated stage directions, making use of both colons and brackets. We also practised using verbs and adverbs to up-level our action-filled scenes, applying our learning from SPaG. We finished our week by writing an exciting showpiece on a scene involving the bear from our book!
Maths
In Maths this week we have moved on to subtraction. We started the week by recapping our number bonds knowledge from Year 2 and applying this to mental subtraction techniques. We used number lines to help us both subtract and find the difference between two numbers. We consider how fact families can help us with inverse operations i.e. if I know 24 – 8 = 16 then 16 + 8 = 24.
Next week in Maths we will be continuing our learning on subtraction using the formal method, column subtraction.
Fact of the week
Next week, the fact of the week is 2X6=12 and 6X2=12.
Thematic
We have had an exciting week this week in Thematic learning all about soil and sediment! We collected our own samples from Forest School and learnt that soil is made from rocks and organic matter and that rocks can change over time. We recapped our learning of the 3 Stone Age stages and wowed our teachers with our incredible knowledge of the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. We ended our week by looking at how farming changed from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.
Home Learning
This week we have been focusing our learning Play Scripts. For your home learning this week, we would like you to create a play script on anything of your choice. This can be evidenced in any way, for example writing, pictures, videos or illustrations.
