Year 6 have had a great week. For all their efforts, they have earned the school reward of Kenneth the Reindeer.
English this week and next
In English, we have written letters in role as Michael. He is hoping to be rescued by his parents and he has sent this letter as a message in a bottle. We used our emotive language to show how Michael is feeling about being separated from his family but also how he feels about his time with Kensuke on the island. We wrote in role by using first person and also expressing our feelings, thoughts and emotions. Next week, we will be preparing, writing and publishing a non-chronological report about the effects of palm oil production.
Maths this week and next
This week, the children have been consolidating their understanding of fractions including using all four operations to solve calculations. We then moved onto finding fractions of amounts. Next week, we will be converting between fractions, decimals and percentages and finding percentages of amounts.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, we explored techniques, using a variety of media, for creating Japanese cherry blossom tress. We tried different ways to produce the blossom and then chose one to use in our final pieces.
In our Thematic lesson next week, we will be learning about what happened in Britain after WW2. We will explore how trade routes are influenced by natural resources and how countries are interconnected and interdependent.
Home Learning
For home learning, we would like the children to research the production of palm oil and the negative effects of this process on the environment.
Key Dates and Messages
We are incredibly excited to announce that on the 6th of June we have Olympic gymnast Danny Crouch visiting Chilton, to deliver a class assembly with a Q & A session and a short fitness session. Every child has received a sponsorship form this week to complete and fill in to try and raise as much money as possible for Danny to help him with his career. There will be prizes for the most amount raised! If you would like any extra information about Danny, his crowdfunding page is linked below.
