English

We have now read up to chapter 3 of Kensuke's Kingdom and disaster has struck!  Michael and Stella the dog have fallen overboard whilst mum and dad are sleeping!  Following on from last week's learning of writing using emotive language and applying suitable tense, we wrote up our entries for Michael's log book.  On Friday, we considered mum and dad's point of view and wrote in role as them as they learn that Michael is missing.  Next week, we will learn what happens to Michael and using exciting language to describe.  We will also use characterisation to explore Michael's feelings and write using flashbacks.

Maths

We have worked tirelessly this week to understand BIDMAS and algebra.  We solved problems whilst applying the order of operations and formed expressions using letters to represent values.  We also found missing numbers in sequences and checked that they followed the same rules.  Next week, we will solving problems involving angles.

Thematic

It was exciting and worthwhile visiting the Ramsgate Tunnels on Wednesday to support our learning of World War II.  The children learned the impact the war had on our local area.  We also understood the importance of the role of women during the war and studied a range of sources to find out the lasting legacy of women's contributions.

Monday was Science Day and the children had a lot of fun investigating their reaction times compared to others in the class.  We discussed possible anomalies before conducting our own experiments to develop our thinking.

Next week, we will be exploring the lasting effects of the war by finding out the United Nations role and how the Nuremburg Trials kept people to account.
