Important notices

With Christmas fast approaching, here are a few dates to add to your diary for upcoming events.

On Tuesday 29th November, the Chilton Fundraisers will be holding a 'Christmas Lantern Festival' from 3.15-4.15 on the school field. Mr. Redwood and the school choir will be leading the Christmas carols. There will be hot chocolate and festive cakes available, a tombola, a Christmas shop and a handful of festive games to play. On Monday 28th November, we will be having a non-school uniform day. On this day we ask the children to bring in a bottle for our Tombola. In addition, on Monday 21st November, we will be sending a white bag home. We ask the children decorate these and add a treat to the bag, for example some sweets or crayons. We would like these brought into school on Monday 28th November, ready to be sold at the Festival on Tuesday.

Christmas performance dates are as follows:

· Reception – Friday 9th December at 9:15

· Year 1 – Monday 12th December at 9:15

· Year 2 – Tuesday 13th December at 9:15

· Year 3 and 4 – Wednesday 14th December at 9:00

· Year 5 and 6 – Wednesday 14th December at 2:30

Christmas dinner and Christmas jumper day will be the last day of term – Friday 16th December

Learning this week

On Monday, we had a ‘Kindness Day’ across the school. The children completed a number of tasks relating to kindness and gratitude. Finishing the day with an oracy task sharing what they are grateful for, the children enjoyed reflecting the importance of being kind.

English

This week the children have continued to read the text ‘Skellig’. They created an illustration to show their interpretation of the character - Skellig and used this to generate vocabulary to describe his character. The children focussed on using prepositional phrases in their character descriptions.

Next week the children will continue to read Skellig, drawing on their reciprocal reading skills to help understand the text.  In chapter 10, Michael has a nightmare about his baby sister and the creature in the garage; we will be writing a dream sequence using suitable vocabulary.  

Maths

The children have spent the week developing their understanding of dividing by using the short division method to divide by two digits. They also have divided decimal dividends and linked this to dividing amounts of money.

Next week the children will be applying their division skills to solve word problems and putting any remainders into context.  They will use this knowledge to help understand fractions: the children will be finding fractions of amounts and shape before moving onto equivalent fractions.

Afternoon lessons:

This week the children have continued their thematic topic of ‘Inside Out’. The children explored the pulmonary circulation system by looking closely at a lamb’s heart. They also learned about the respiratory system, making a pair of lungs using straws and paper bags. The children were able to apply their learning to a discussion after completing the 1K, explaining why they were breathing faster.

Next week the children will be focussing on Anti-Bullying Week: During Anti-Bullying Week, the children will learn more about what bullying is and what they should do if they see bullying or are bullied.  The children will learn about empathy.  As a class, we will discuss bullying accusations, online behaviours (including social media) and sharing information with others.
