Well done to Year 5 for another amazing week of learning
English
This week, we have been reading another famous romantic poem, 'The Lady of Shallot' by Lord Tenyson. We clarified unfamiliar vocabulary in the poem before hot seating the reapers. We used our figurative language writing skills to create a detailed setting description of the isle of Shallot before publishing that piece. Next week, we will finish the poem and will write a character description of the Lady of Shallot.
Maths
This week, we have been looking at Measurement, focusing on the difference between imperial and metric measurement and how to convert between different measurements within and between imperial and metric. We also looked at ratio and how ratio can be used to both scale up and scale down. We then completed a Friday investigation. Next week, we will be recapping the four operations in a measurement context.
Afternoons
In our afternoons this week, we have continued our Tides of Change thematic learning and our Design and Technology and Computing skills. We designed a coastal rescue device using our new found knowledge of gears and pulleys before using our honed TinkerCAD skills to create our design. We then evaluated our TinkerCAD designs before completing our end of unit quiz and recapping our learning. In our Art lesson, we mixed colours to create a 'mood palette'.
For home learning this week, please could children investigate and find as many examples of where imperial and metric measurements are used in their house, town etc. As always, the children's learning can be presented in a creative way of their choice.
