Friday 26th May
Year 5 have had a fantastic last week of term. Thank you to all of the parents that joined us at the colour run today, we hope you had as much fun as we did!
English
This week, we finished writing our Wolf Brother narratives and began to publish them. In our writing, we have focussed on the skill of weaving action, description and dialogue to support the structure of our writing. We also finished reading the book, focussing on our summarising skills to discuss the main points of the story.
Next term, we will be studying the short film 'The Piano' and the poems of 'The Highwayman' and 'The Lady of Shalott'.
Maths
In maths, we have been learning how to interpret data from tables, including how to calculate missing amounts. We applied this learning to answer a range of reasoning problems, focussing on using mathematical vocabulary to give reasons to support our answers.
During the first week of term, we will be looking at translating shapes across a four quadrant grid, including coordinates.
Thematic Curriculum
We completed our learning on Seasides this week by visiting Westcliff Beach and identifying hard and soft engineering strategies for coastal erosion. We found a number of strategies, including stacks and arches. We also completed our end of unit quiz on Kahoot and were very impressed with what the children had remembered from our learning this term.
Next term, our thematic focus will be 'Goodies and Baddies', in which we will study the history of the British monarchy and the impact that their rules had on British society.
Home Learning
Whilst there is no formal home learning to complete over half term, we would like the children to continue to read at a minimum of four times a week, either their home books or on MyOn. We would also like children to ensure that they are quizzing on AR when they have finished reading a book.
