One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 14th October

What a fabulous week Year 5 have had! Here is what we have been up to:

English

On Monday we gathered in court where Ernest Shackleton was on trial for being a bad leader. We have spent the week gathering evidence to present to Judge Abel next Friday. Within our writing, we wrote from the perspective of Percy Blackbarrow, Frank Wilde and Emily Shackleton, focussing on using cause and effect conjunctions and varying our sentence structures.

Next week we will be continuing with our persuasive writing by writing a balanced argument, weighing up the evidence whether Shackleton was guilty of being a bad leader.

Maths

This week we revisited our time telling skills, before applying this to convert between digital and analogue time. We then moved on to convert between minutes, seconds, hours and days. We applied these skills to solve a range of reasoning problems.

Next week we will continue our learning on time by focussing on converting between days, weeks, months and years. We will be making reference cards in our maths journals to support us with this.

Afternoon Learning

This week we have been learning about amphibians and why they cannot survive in Antarctica. We then ended our Frozen Kingdom topic with a quiz on our learning for the term. We were so impressed with everyones answers!

Next week we will be moving on to our RE unit, within which we will be learning about the origins of the Christian bible and some of its stories.

Miss Stagg's Group - Revision of all previous learnt spellings
