PE is on a Wednesday

Sports Project is on a Thursday

The children are expected to read at least four times a week and bring their reading records in every day.

Love to Learn:

This week we have set a my maths challenge for the children to complete. We have been working on using paragraphs in our writing this week so we would like you to make a poster about why you need to use them and why they are important.

Times Tables

We are noticing that the children need some extra support to learn their times tables. If you are able to assist your child at home then for the next couple of weeks we are focusing on the three times tables. By the end of Year 4, the children are required to know all of their times tables up to 12x12.

This Week

In Maths this week the children have been learning about multiplication. We have been using our times tables to multiply by 10 but to also multiply by 2- and 3-digit numbers by 1 digit using the formal multiplication method. We also tried using the grid method to multiply which we will be looking at next week as well.

In English, the children wrote a letter. This letter was written to the President of Australia about letting Hogarth send the Iron Man to fight the space bat angel dragon. We were using formal language and persuasive language in our letters.

In Topic, it has been art week! We recreated famous Islamic art. We began by creating geometrical pattern art, then looked at Henri Rousseau’s Arabian and Islamic art and followed by recreating a number of different pieces using pastels.

Next Week

In maths next week the children will be continuing their learning about multiplication and the grid method. Once we have covered that, we will be moving on to division. We will be using the manipulatives to help us and also using the short division method known as the bus stop method.

In English next week the children will be finishing the Iron Man book. We will be creating our own narrative linked to the ending of the book. However, we are going to change the ending. The children are going to create their own!

In Topic, the children will be learning about electricity and electrical inventions. It will be a very practical week where the children will make circuits and explore the inside of a torch.
