One Childhood, One Chance

Year 4 Weekly News 9/9/22

It has been absolutely amazing to welcome back everyone for the start of the academic year. To see the smiles on all the children’s faces as we have welcomed them back has been brilliant. They have all worked incredibly hard throughout the first week back!

English

Throughout our English this week, we started our new book called ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. We began the week by creating a word bank of all the descriptive language we could use when describing Iron Man. We used verbs, adverbs, nouns and expanded noun phrases. Later in the week, we continued our story but moved on to setting description. In Chapter one the Iron Man is stood at the brink of the cliff, we used personification to bring all of the items on the beach to life!

Maths

During Maths this week, we began by looking at place value. On Monday, we had an active lesson looking at different ways we can represent numbers up to 1000. We loved challenging ourselves to see how many ways we could do it! Throughout the week, we continued with place value but started to look at partitioning and finding 1,10,100 and 1000 more or less than a given number. We transferred our skills from the beginning of the week brilliantly!

PSHE

In PSHE this week, we looked at welcoming the children back with how to be safe in school, this included how to be safe in the classroom but also around the school and on the playground. On Tuesday, we concentrated on our zones of regulations. In the classroom we have red, yellow, green and blue zones for the children to put their name on depending how they are feeling at the time. We are teaching the children to be able to regulate their emotions themselves. At the end of the week, we concentrated on our social skills and manners.

Love to Learn

Next week, we start our Topic called Inventions. In preparation, we want you to find three different inventions in your house. Research them and tell us which one your think is best and why. Once you have done that, decorate your books!
