Year 3 have had another fab week and ended it on such a high. Let’s have a look at what we’ve been up to
English
Our English learning this week started with a new text called ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. The children have been really interested in the text and have been making links with Anthony Browne’s other texts (especially the illustrations). In our writing, we have been learning how to compose letters using emotive language (showing how the character feels) and the difference between formal and informal language. Have a look at the resource below to remind you of the differences.
Next week, we will be continuing our learning on Gorilla and letters. We will also be planning and writing a letter to our author of the term – Anthony Browne
Maths
In Maths this week, the children have been learning to add and subtract using the column method. We began our week by using manipulatives (base 10) to add or subtract in column method with regrouping. We then moved on to writing the calculations in our maths book – focusing on our neat presentation and one number per box. The children have excelled with this and we were amazed at their efforts.
Next week, we will begin our topic on Multiplication and Division using column method and bus stop
SPaG
In our punctuation and grammar lessons this week, we learnt about contractions for informal language. We had to remember to put the apostrophe in the correct place.
In spelling, we were learning about the suffix 'ian' and what root words we can add this suffix to make new words.
electric + ian = electrician magic + ian = magician
Thematic
This week in Thematic, we finished our topic ‘How our body works’ by completing a design and technology task of making our own prosthetics. The children worked in groups to design, make and evaluate their product. We then ended our learning with an afternoon on the field completing circuit activities and measuring our heart rates.
Next week, we be completing our RE learning for the term and this will be based on Jesus and his teachings.
