One Childhood, One Chance

Year 3 News!

Another fantastic week in Year 3! Let’s have a look at what we’ve been doing this week.

English

This week in English, we carried on with Charlotte’s Web. We have been writing character descriptions of the characters in the story like Fern, Charlotte, Wilbur and Templeton. We used FANBOY’s as connectives for our sentences and also used similes to compare a character to something else. The children have done really well this week!

Maths

In Maths, we’ve been looking at multiplication and division. We looked at scaling in our multiplication where we had an item that was 5cm and used a bar model to work out how long another item would be that was 3 times as long. We also used a variety of methods including the bar model and part part whole to show our division. We did a good job, well done year 3!

Thematic

This week we continued our topic ‘from bean to bar’. We discussed whether we thought explorers were heroes or villains as we looked at what they did to the Aztec and the Incan empire. It led to a very interesting discussion about whether the explorers were completely heroes, completely villains, or somewhere in between.

Love to Learn

READING: Children in Year 3 are expected to read at home at least three times a week. It is really important that the children bring in their reading records daily so that we can check in with progress and read with the children in school. MyOn is a great way for children to read independently. Once a book has been read on MyOn it will ask you to quiz and direct you to the AR website. You can also AR the school reading books, once your child has finished. Please read as often as possible at home

GR: Tell us about your favourite book. Why do you like it? What did you get from it?

Spelling – the ‘r’ sound ‘wr’

Reminders

The expectations of uniform is that hair is tied back if it is below the shoulders. Hoodies (apart from those provided by the school) are not permitted and children should be wearing school shoes, not trainers apart from on Sports Project days. PE kit should be navy or black with a white t-shirt.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 3 Team
