Miss Kennedy
From next week, Miss Kennedy will be joining the Year 4 team so all children will be back in the classroom. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Kennedy for everything she has done in Year 2 these past few months.
Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at fractions! We started the week by finding fractions of shape. We then used this learning to help us find fractions of quantities by using the sharing method. By the end of the week we were able to solve problems using our knowledge. What super Mathematicians we are.
Next week in maths we will be continuing looking at Fractions.
Fact of the week!
Next week our Fact of the Week is 4 X 5 = 20
English
This week in English we have been looking at ‘Surprising Sharks’ by Nicola Davies. We have been writing different sentence types including statements, questions and exclamations. We worked on constructing and punctuating each sentence accurately and then looked to see how we could edit and improve them. We challenged ourselves this week to use a subordinating or coordinating conjunction in our statements. We wrote our very own Surprising Shark texts!
Next week in English we will looking at a brand new book ‘How Bees Make Honey’.
RWI
In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up fluency when reading, this included focusing on pace, speed,

Thematic
We started the week with an exciting Science Day! We started the day by thinking about what a scientist was. We wanted to break down any stereotypes that a scientist is a man in a lab coat because we now know a scientist could be looking at plants, space, the earth, food, work in a laboratory, work outside in nature and so much more! We then focused our day on learning about offspring. We matched offspring to their adults and looked at the differences between offspring depending on the type of animal it is. We learnt the differences between mammals, amphibians, fish, birds and reptiles.
For the rest of the week we have been focusing on computing. On Scratch Junior, we have been learning how to get sprites to move in repeated movements and to speak by using dialogue boxes.
Next week in Thematic we will finish our computing learning and complete the end of unit quiz.
