Weekly news! 7.10.23
What a superb week in Year 2. We hope you enjoyed watching the Harvest Festival Assembly!
Maths
This week in maths we have continued our learning of subtracting on a hundred square! We learnt to subtract 10 from a 2-digit number, by jumping up 1 for 10, 2 jumps up for 20 etc. and then going backwards in our 1’s. Later in the week we consolidated our learning on subtracting and adding on a hundred square.
Fact of the week!
Next week our Fact of the Week is
2 + 8 = 10
English
This week in English we have started a new book Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin. We started by predicting what would happen in the story, clarified the words we were unsure of and we answered questions about the story.
To celebrate National Poetry Day, Year 2 read the poem ‘Don’t’ by the famous author Michael Rosen. We watched how Rosen performed it and then in small groups we added our own actions and used our voices to perform to the class.

RWI
In RWI this week we have been focusing on building up their fluency when reading, this included their pace, speed, expressions and reading punctuation. Any additional practice at home will be hugely beneficial.
SPAG (Spellings, Punctuation and Grammar)
This week in SpaG we have been looking at the sound ou shout it out and ow brown cow. With our learning partners we sorted the pictures and wrote the words on the pictures to help us sort them out.
Thematic curriculum
This week we have been Designers! At the beginning of the week we researched, designed and experimented with a range of materials to create a beam bridge inspired by the bridges of London! We then had to ensure the bridge was sturdy enough for a water bottle to sit on it for 10 seconds and we had to make sure the materials we used were joined together.
Art
This week in art we looked at the artists Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt and Georgia O’Keeffe. We looked at the colour, pattern and shape and we wrote what we thought of the artists paintings.
Handwriting
In Handwriting, we have been practising our print letters using the RWI patters. Super handwriting Team Aqua and Team Topaz!
