Weekly News w/b Monday 1st May - Team Royal and Team Indigo
What a super week Year 2 have had! We have had a busy week starting the special booklets but also we got to celebrate our favourite moments of the year so far with you!
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading this week, we have started looking at a brand new book called ‘Emily Brown and The Thing’ by Cressida Cowell and Neal Layton.
This week we have focused on reading the story with accuracy. We have read the story as a class and with partners. We are working on reading fluently.
English
Following on from Guided Reading looking at ‘Emily Brown and The Thing’ we have focused on using adjectives to describe the main characters. We looked at not only the characters appearance, we also focused on their personality too. We have worked hard this week at expanding the vocabulary we were using from words such as big to ginormous or nice to thoughtful.
Spellings
Each week we will be practising new spellings. If you would like to have a go at home, the spellings for this week are:
Maths
In Maths this week we have been focusing on completing our special booklets but also recapping our previous learning of the 4 operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We looked at a variety of calculations and solved one and two step problems. We are so confident with these now. Go Year 2!
Thematic Curriculum
This week we became geographers when looking at the unit ‘A Pirate’s Life For Us!’ We learnt what an atlas was and how to use it to help us. Did you know an atlas is called an atlas because the Ancient Greeks believed that Atlas held the world on his shoulders? We used this new skill of using an atlas to find places in the UK such as London, Belfast, Hastings and Dundee!
We then used the atlas’ to help us recap our learning on the 5 oceans of the world. We are becoming so confident with this knowledge now. So confident in fact we solved tricky problems such as….
PSHE
In Be Here, Be You, Belong this week, we have been focusing on why we belong to our team… we looked at this by playing Find Someone Who! We went around the class looking for people in our team who did specific things. Take a look at some of the boxes we needed to complete.
