Guided Reading

In Guided Reading this week, we have started a brand-new book called 'The Lonely Beast' written by Chris Judge. Whilst getting to know the book we have become actors when acting out scenes, summarised unknown language from the book, created story maps to help us become more familiar with the plot and finished the week by answering comprehension style questions as if we were the beast in the story.

English

In English this week, we have been building up to writing a narrative on how the beast moves in different places e.g. the ocean, the forest and the city. We started the week by recapping verbs and adverbs, we then looked at coordinating conjunctions and time conjunctions which lead us to be able to confidently write a narrative using all of those skills.

In English next week we will be learning how to write a newspaper report.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have been looking at finding fractions of shape and amounts. To do this, we had to understand that a numerator tells us how many equal parts to look at whereas the denominator tells us how many equal parts there are. We can all now confidently find halves, quarters and thirds of shape and amounts. Some of us can even find numerous parts such as two thirds and three quarters. 

In Maths next week, we will be learning about position and direction. 

Thematic Curriculum

This week in Thematic Curriculum, we have been focusing on Science. In Science this week we have been looking at offspring and life cycles of mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds. We finished the week by recreating the life cycles but in an artistic fashion using watercolours.

Swimming and Sports Project

We will be swimming on a Thursday, please can children come into school in their PE kits on this day. Please can children also bring in a swimming bag that is clearly labelled with swimming wear, towel, goggles and a snack in their bag for after swimming.

Sports Project will continue on a Monday please can children come in their school uniform and wear trainers.

Easter Bonnet Parade

Easter will soon be here and we will be holding our traditional Easter egg hunts and bonnet parade in school. Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 are invited to make an Easter bonnet or hat if they would like to and bring it in to school on the final day of term (Friday 31st March). We will hold a parade in the hall for parents to come along to at 10:00 and prizes will be awarded for the most impressive creations.
