Weekly news 07.02.2024!
Happy end of Term 3!
What a wonderful way to finish the term; Chinese food and Luna New Year celebrations. Although we have some tired faces, the children have been focused on their learning more than ever. Reception have been exploring E-Safety and how to keep safe online. We are very impressed with the responses of the children and how grown up their decision-making was when we explored a few scenarios.
Phonics
The children have been learning a song all about ‘red words’. I’m sure if you play it to them, they will sing it for you! There is a link below with the song, enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3pvC4PoJRE
As children start reading stories with longer sentences, they may come across red words. It is a good idea to practice the red words they may see by playing games like snap or finding the word (hiding the word around your house). Here are the red words we have been practising at school.
Maths
This week in maths, we have been learning about patterns. The children have explored ABBC patterns by recognising the 'rule' of the patterns and repeating them, checking the 'rule' has been followed correctly. The children then made their own ABBC patterns using animals from the Chinese new year calenders.
Thematic Curriculum
We have had such a wonderful week of learning about Luna New year. We started the week with a special delivery of Chinese food and then discovered facts about how Luna New Year is celebrated and why. We have been role-playing using costumes, making dragons, and prepping food. The children particularly enjoyed making decorations like lanterns and corrugated dragons on sticks.
Next term, we will be learning about space.
