Weekly News! 10.11.23
We have had another wonderful week in Reception. Lots of fun and lots of learning has been going on in Team Sapphire and Team Cornflower!
Phonics
This week we have started our Read, Write, Inc lessons in small groups. Each group will focus on the sounds and the skills suited to them. To support at home, you can continue to use the pink sounds books (which can now be kept at home) to make sure that they can speedily recall the sounds. Children can also use the space on the pages to practise writing the sounds.
Maths
This week we have been learning to recognise numerals and learning to write the numbers 6-10. We have been doing lots of fun activities in our maths lessons and through our play to help us learn these numbers. If you see these numbers out and about, see if your child recognises them.
Thematic Curriculum
In the afternoons this week, we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We learned about why this festival is celebrated, made diva lamps from clay and then decorated them and learned a Diwali dance. At the end of the week, to celebrate our learning around celebrations, we had a pretend bonfire in class. We collected twigs to make the bonfire, made a Guy, watched videos of fireworks and ate marshmallows. It was lots of fun! Children also had the opportunity to make an edible sparkler if they wanted to!
Next week, the whole school will be focusing on PSHE. We will be focusing on our school value of kindness. We will start by learning what kindness is and how we can show that in school. We will also think about how we can be kind to ourselves, what makes a good friend and what to do when we fall out with our friends.
